The Booker T. Blueprint: Experiential Learning in the Jim Crow South
Booker T. Washington was a thought leader, scholar, advocate, and practitioner of Experiential Learning through his efforts at Historically Black Colleges and Universities like Hampton University and Tuskegee University. He also pioneered a community-based K12 education model by establishing over 5,000 Rosenwald schools during the Jim Crow Era. Without a doubt, students learn better through experience. This is especially true with students of color.
It is imperative that we provide equitable experiential and project-based learning opportunities at every level of our educational system. This is not just a suggestion, but a necessity for the future of our students and our society.
